Game Log 4

CREATE PHASE

Summary of our game

The player starts in the world of Modern Breakthrough, where they discover a plant that refuses to grow (the plant is highlighted using a particle system in Unity). Then, a riddle appears, pointing them toward a house with light coming from one of the rooms. Entering the room transports the player into the world of Romanticism - a realm of beauty and illusion (using light to create the illusion of being transported between worlds). There, they are drawn to a beam of sunlight and decide to bring it back, believing it will help the plant thrive (we think we have to make the sunlight "tangible" so the player can grab it and hold it). Initially, it seems to work. But over time, the player uncovers a deeper truth: nothing from the Romanticism world is real. Its light is only an illusion, and cannot nurture real growth.

The Heritage Remixed theme

"History is never truly in the past - it's a living story, shaped and reshaped by those who tell it"

The images that inspired us from the Romanticism and the Modern Breakthrough period all tell stories—and each one reshapes reality in its own way. Our interpretations, in turn, reshape those stories again. We learned that many Romanticism works present an idealised, polished version of reality, while the Modern Breakthrough artists focused more on the raw, harsh truths of their time. This contrast fascinated us and became the foundation for our game. After all, how much of what we see can we truly trust? And perhaps every version reflects a truth—at least for someone.

In our game, we remix not only the visual worlds inspired by Romanticism and the Modern Breakthrough, but also the very idea of reality and history itself. Players will discover that some elements of the worlds are illusions, challenging them to question what’s real—and what’s merely a reflection.
